Speaker: Dr. Jungmin Seo
Jungmin Seo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago with a dissertation entitled “Nationalism in the Market: the Chinese Publishing Industry and Nationalist Discourses in the l990’s.” His major research interests focus is on East Asian politics, nationalism, and political economy of culture. He is currently working on two China related projects: 1) the concept of democracy during the Tiananmen Democratic Movement in l989; 2) the role of cultural industry in shaping Chinese identity, and; 3) the current political challenges facing China in the awakening of the Olympics.
His workshop presentation will focus on “Changing Chinese Society in the Age of
Globalization.”
